Food Safety Trainings

Foodlink offers Level 1 (L1) Food Manager and Level 2 (L2) Food Handler trainings and certification. These are open to the general public. Information about these trainings is below, including the upcoming schedule, pricing and links to register.

Level 1 (L1)

Food Manager Certification

Foodlink offers the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe Food Manager training course and proctored certification exam. This is a national certification and is valid for five years. 

The 10-hour course is held over 2 days (5 hours/day). Students must receive a 70% or higher to become certified. Upon request, reasonable accommodation can be made for students who require assistance with the exam.

Cost of Training & Exam

  • Foodlink Members: $125/person
  • Community Members: $140/person

 

This fee covers all necessary materials, including: ServSafe Manager coursebook, exam answer sheet, test booklet, study guides, handouts, practice quizzes.

Grant Funding: Foodlink is able to provide funding for the cost of the course to one person directly involved with food service per HPNAP-funded Emergency Shelter or Community Meal Site (i.e., soup kitchen) operating out of a certified kitchen in Monroe and Orleans counties. 

Exam only (for recertification or retest)

You are eligible to recertify by taking the exam and not attending the training as long as you can show proof of prior valid certification. Those taking the exam for the first time must attend training. 

If you have taken the exam and did not pass, you are eligible to retest without attending additional training. Certain restrictions may apply. 

 

Cost of exam only (recertification or retest)​

  • Community Members: $60/person

Level 2 (L2)

Food Handler Certification

The Foodlink Level 2 (L2) Food Handler Certification program is approved by the Monroe County Department of Health and covers New York State’s Department of Health Food Code regulations that are applicable to all counties in Foodlink’s service area. The certification is valid for three years.

The 6-hour course is offered two different ways: 6 hours on one day, or 3 hours/day over 2 days. Students must receive a score of 75% or higher on the exam to become certified. Upon request, reasonable accommodation can be made for students who require assistance with the exam.

Cost of Training & Exam

  • Foodlink HPNAP-funded Emergency Shelter and Community Meal Site (i.e., soup kitchen) food service workers: FREE 
  • Other Foodlink members: $30/person
  • Community Members: $50/person

 

This fee covers all necessary materials, including: study guide, practice quizzes, handouts, exam.

Exam only (for recertification or retest)

You are eligible to recertify by taking the exam and not attending the training as long as you can show proof of prior valid certification, and it is within three months of your current L2 certification expiration date. Otherwise, you must attend training. Those taking the exam for the first time must attend training. 

If you have taken the exam and did not pass, you are eligible to retest without attending additional training. Certain restrictions may apply.

  • Community Members: $30/person

CAN'T ATTEND A FOODLINK TRAINING?

Community members needing to gain certification in between Foodlink training offerings can do so via the National Restaurant Association at www.servsafe.com.
