The annual Check Out Hunger campaign returns once again to Rochester-area Wegmans stores Sunday, October 16.
The fundraiser provides critical assistance for Foodlink, the regional food bank and public health organization committed to ending hunger and building healthier communities. The point-of-sale campaign allows Wegmans shoppers to donate a few dollars – or simply round up their grocery bill – while checking out at 21 local stores.
This year’s campaign begins October 16 and runs through November 26. Shoppers contributed $685,000 toward last year’s campaign.
“Foodlink is incredibly grateful to have the support of Wegmans and its shoppers as the holiday season approaches,” said Julia Tedesco, President & CEO. “Check Out Hunger is an easy way for Rochester-area residents to support our mission of ending hunger and building healthier communities.”
Donations help fund many of Foodlink’s food-related programs and support its food-banking operations across its 10- county service area.
According to Feeding America, more than 11% of people are food insecure in Foodlink’s service area, which means nearly 140,000 residents of Foodlink’s service area have uncertain or limited access to enough healthy food.
