Foodlink statement on the passing of Rosa Wims

Foodlink released the following statement on the recent passing of Rosa Wims:

Foodlink is deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Rosa Wims, one of Rochester’s most well-respected and revered icons, known for her deep commitment to public health, service and love for her community.

Rosa, who turned 100 last year, and Foodlink have been inextricably connected for decades because of one of the city’s greatest holiday traditions. Her annual Thanksgiving dinner lasted more than 35 years and fed thousands. Recent editions of the dinner were held in partnership with Foodlink at the Montgomery Center in the Corn Hill neighborhood, where she called home for decades. Rosa’s presence at each event was a marvel to watch as she greeted and served all of her neighbors with grace and dignity. In addition to her legendary dinners, Rosa directly supported the Foodlink mission as both an employee and board member through the years.

Foodlink will honor Rosa through a commitment of continuing her work and nourishing her neighbors. We express our sincere condolences to her family, friends and loved ones, and look forward to working with them to honor her legacy in the years ahead.
