Miya Powell, a Nutrition Educator at Foodlink, held her first demonstration at the Public Market on Thursday. Miya and her fellow nutrition educators prepare healthy, delicious recipes all while providing nutritional lessons to those in attendance.
For Powell’s first demonstration, she made a Fresh Corn Salad. It featured, fresh corn, tomatoes, red onion, carrots, vinegar, oil, fresh cilantro and salt and pepper. The Fresh Corn Salad was full of fiber and cost a dollar per serving. All the ingredients used to make the salad could be purchased right at the Public Market.
The popular nutrition education demonstrations at the Public Market take place on Thursdays and Saturdays at 9 and 10 a.m. in the middle of Shed B at the cooking demo kitchen. Each session takes approximately 20 minutes, and guests are offered samples of a prepared recipe, which focus on seasonal fruits and vegetables that can be purchased at the market. Recipes prepared are healthy, delicious, simple, and inexpensive. Sign-ups are not required to attend a demonstration; everyone is welcome! Guests can show up, grab a seat, and enjoy the interactive workshop.
Each session on Thursday had around a dozen attendees; a great turnout for Powell’s first demonstration! If you missed Thursday’s demo, make sure to stop by another time to see Miya, say hi and give one of the delicious recipes a try!
