Foodlink’s popular Just Say Yes to Fruits and Vegetables recipe demonstrations returned to the Public Market on Thursday.
Foodlink nutrition educator Chef Miya Powell is back in full swing offering free recipes demonstrations and nutrition lessons. Thursday demonstrations have been on pause throughout most of the winter, but Foodlink is happy to announce their return as we began National Nutrition Month – an annual awareness campaign spearheaded by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Demonstrations take place at 9 and 10 a.m. in shed B at the cooking demo kitchen. Each session takes approximately 20 minutes, and guests are offered samples of the prepared recipe, which focus on seasonal fruits and vegetables that can be purchased at the market. Recipes prepared are healthy, delicious, simple, and inexpensive. Sign-ups are not required to attend a demonstration. Guests can show up, grab a seat, and enjoy the interactive nutrition workshop.
As March marks the 50th anniversary of National Nutrition Month, Chef Miya gave guests an overview of the benefits of increasing your fruit and vegetable intake. During the nutrition lessons, Chef Miya will continue to dive into the concept of eating a “rainbow” daily and go over various options of fruits by color.
And when Chef Miya isn’t at the Public Market you can find her at public libraries, apartment complexes, senior centers and more offering free cooking demonstrations.
