'No Kid Hungry' grant means more healthy, hot meals from the Foodlink Community Kitchen! - Foodlink Inc

‘No Kid Hungry’ grant means more healthy, hot meals from the Foodlink Community Kitchen!

School looks different this year for millions of students across America, but whether they’re learning in a classroom or online, kids need nutritious food to reach their full potential.

The Foodlink Community Kitchen has stepped up during the pandemic to do just that,  producing thousands of healthy meals and snacks daily to help nourish students who can no longer access meals from their school cafeteria. Now, thanks to a $34,000 No Kid Hungry grant, Foodlink can make an even bigger impact in our communities.

The grant funding allows Foodlink to purchase the equipment it needs to serve more hot meals to its partner sites and the children they serve. Since the pandemic began to impact our region, Foodlink’s meal programs for local students were faced with multiple challenges, including site closures and safety measures that impact how we typically provide nourishing meals to children.  As a result, Foodlink has decreased the number of hot meals it serves to sites because of some of the logistical barriers in place. From the feedback we have received, we know hot meals are often preferred over cold meals.

Funding from No Kid Hungry helps Foodlink purchase the equipment necessary to increase the number of hot meals served and ensure the safety of children and staff at our partner meal sites. With this grant, Foodlink has two main objectives:

  • (1) Purchase equipment such as “warming” cabinets for hot meals and make the necessary vehicle modifications to transport them.
  • (2) Increase the number of hot meals served to children.

Thank you, No Kid Hungry, for helping us better serve the children and families who rely on us for nourishment during these challenging times!
