Remembering Jimmy Stiner

***

It is with incredible sadness that we share the news of the passing of Jimmy Stiner — a recent graduate of the Foodlink Career Fellowship, an employee of our kitchen, and a joyful presence to all who knew him.

He was just 41 years old and left us far too soon — just as his second act was getting underway.

Jimmy joined the Foodlink family in July of 2019 — a member of the Fellowship’s Class of 2020 and one of 10 participants to be chosen for our culinary training program out of 30 applicants. On the first day, Fellows complete our Hands-Heart-Mind orientation exercise, where they share what they are good at, what they are passionate about and what they know a lot about. Jimmy told us his ‘heart’ was “sharing my smile and love with all people.”

That is unmistakably Jimmy.

His interactions with our staff — from close friends in the kitchen to colleagues working on the other side of the building — were genuine, with an extra helping of enthusiasm. He was so proud of his contributions to Foodlink’s mission, and took pride in serving others.

Jimmy thrived in this role. He once said: “I love the challenge of working in a hot, chaotic kitchen and I find peace in the middle of the kitchen storm. Producing an elegant meal out of the chaos and fire of the kitchen makes me feel part artist, part magician, part mad scientist. I want my food to bring people together, to provide a delicious common ground and inspiration for human connection.”

He was a loving father, brother, son, nephew and friend who cared deeply about those around him. Our deepest sympathies are with Jimmy’s family and friends during this difficult time.
