On Friday, April 17, we received a $100 donation from an 8‑year‑old named Augie, and the story behind it is one we won’t soon forget. Augie was given $100 by his grandparents with a simple but powerful mission: donate it to a nonprofit of his choice. Instead of deciding quickly, Augie took the task seriously. He researched several organizations, thoughtfully chose Foodlink, and even created a presentation to explain to his family why our work mattered to him.
Augie’s grandparents reached out to Foodlink to arrange a visit so he could present his research and personally deliver his donation. Of course, we couldn’t have Augie come to Foodlink without a tour, so we were thrilled to welcome him and his family to our headquarters.
When Augie shared his presentation with our team, he told us that food is essential, everyone needs it, and people without food deserve to have it. He explained that he chose Foodlink because we “offer a lot,” and proudly described us as “the helpers of food.”
After his presentation, Augie toured Foodlink alongside his dad, younger sister, and grandparents. As they walked through our facility and saw firsthand all that happens here each day—from food distribution to community‑based programs—they were genuinely amazed. So inspired by Augie’s thoughtfulness, research, and the work happening at Foodlink, his grandparents decided to match his gift, bringing the total donation to $200.
We are incredibly grateful to Augie and his family for their generosity, curiosity, and belief in our mission. Their story is a beautiful reminder that compassion has no age limit—and that when we take the time to learn about our community and care for one another, we all become helpers.
Thank you, Augie and family, for truly making our day.
