The Foodlink Community Farm welcomed neighbors, families and friends on Saturday, Oct. 3, for our 5th annual Fall Festival, bringing the community together to celebrate the season and another year of growth at the farm.
Guests gathered at the farm on Lexington Avenue for an afternoon of fall fun, with free food and beverages, cider and donuts, games, pumpkins, giveaways and opportunities to experience and learn more about the farm.
The festivities also included a cooking demonstration led by Foodlink Community Café Supervisor Meeka and Class #12 Foodlink Career Fellow Quinn. Together, they gave guests a taste of the three bean hearty chili featured at the Foodlink Community Cafe.
This year’s celebration was especially meaningful as it marked the first full growing season at the expanded Foodlink Community Farm following major renovations to the property last year.
Foodlink has operated a farm on Lexington Avenue since 2010, and today the space serves several important roles in the community. It provides gardening space for local residents, many of whom are resettled New Americans living in the Edgerton and Lyell-Otis neighborhoods. Foodlink also uses a portion of the farm for commercial growing to support programs such as the Curbside Market and Foodlink Community Café and Kitchen.
Over the past year, the property has continued to grow into a welcoming community space where neighbors can plant, learn and connect. The expanded farm now supports more community farmers while also providing space for nutrition workshops, school field trips, summer camps, benefits-navigation services and community events throughout the year.
The Fall Festival offered an opportunity to celebrate all of that growth while bringing together the people who make the farm such a vibrant community resource.
